Dr. Willia is an emotional empowerment coach. She began developing herself as a coach 15 years ago.

Self doubt was been one of the greatest obstacle to Willia fully stepping into her practice as an emotional empowerment coach. She now has confidence that what she offers is so important to women leaders in the world.

Willia is a woman of color. This has been a major impact over her life. She has learned and been taught that her color is a major obstacle. All of her stuff around being a woman of color surfaced. She saw how she sabotaged herself to grin and bear it and suck up that her color is an obstacle. She has had to address her own triggers and obstacles. By doing so, she saw how much growth is possible, without which she wouldn’t be where she is at this moment.

Overcoming those interpretations that have remained obstacles for decades has brought Dr. Willia to the cutting edge of what she brings to women in business.

Dr. Willia is also beginning her career as an empowerment coach at 70 years old. It has been isolating because most women of her age are retired and focused on grandchildren. She also feels misunderstood because of her choice to create a career at this state of life. It has created a strain in relationships. She is having to choose to let go of those relationships that don’t nurture her mind, her spirit and her life.

Annie is an artistic genius. Her lampwork is whimsical and beautiful all at the same time. You can see and purchase Annie’s work at https://www.etsy.com/ca/people/anniek…, and at http://www.teahouseglass.com/blog/

Annie’s dilemma is that she likes to play. And at what point does she have to grow up, be an adult and “make something of herself?”

What is true, of course is that each small business guru discovers what makes their heart sing, and how to create play out of what others think of as work. Annie is becoming more masterful with the concept of Work as Play, and Play as Work.

Crystal Crisp is studying to be a health coach. She is inundated with information about not only coaching skills but how to market and sell her services.

At times Crystal is overwhelmed and frustrated, because the information shared through the expensive training she signed up for does not align with her inner vision of her business. Crystal shares how she is being with these dilemmas, and how she willingly faces self-doubt, and that which creates the self-doubt, in order to create and grow her business from the inside out – bringing herself and her business to their fullest expression of fulfillment.

Being highly competent and brilliant in so many aspects of business can create dilemmas – primarily wanting to do it all – because it’s so fun to be challenged on so many levels.

Our work in the world is a journey of the heart. The dilemma is choosing between the wisdom that our hearts are expressing and what the consensus view of reality is telling us is right. How do we choose to choose what we choose?

Ursula Jorch created WorkAlchemy.com Podcast and more. She advises visionary solopreneurs and entrepreneurs on business and marketing strategies. Her own entrepreneurial success began with a quick start. After 9 years in a corporate job, she realized her own dream, starting a company that exceeded her 6-figure corporate salary from her first year in business.

In her 17 years as an entrepreneur, she has coached many visionary people to start and realize successful businesses.

In transforming her practice from corporate consulting to coaching entrepreneurs, Ursula underwent a transformation herself.

She sold her house and most of her belongings, and traveled extensively, continuing her thriving and profitable business on the road. In that process of soul discovery, she achieved clarity about what is truly important.

Ursula’s coaching methods are both intuitive and practical, blending right- and left-brain approaches to help her clients achieve the business (and the life) of their dreams.

It is estimated that about 50% of the world’s population is made up of introverts, and the other 50% are made up of extroverts.

Melissa Forziat, is an introvert. It’s surprising for many to hear that she is an introvert given that she owns a successful consulting business – Melissa Forziat Events, and is a highly experienced event planner. She has authored the Free eBook: Small Business Marketing on a Budget and the companion workbook – Small Business Marketing on a Budget Workbook. She is offering discount of 30% to viewers of this episode of the Dilemmas of Small Business Gurus. See below for more information.

Since I am an introvert as well, my discussion with Melissa focused on how those of us who are introverts need to own the special gifts that come through being an Introvert. (Check out my discussion with Elissa Fesyk an extrovert, who shares her experience of being a small business owner as an extravert.)

Introversion-Extroversion is somewhat of a continuum. Some individuals may need a great deal more time away from people to replenish their energies, while others can be quite comfortable, and actually require engaging socially or in populated business environments.

How would you know if you are introverted? The two questions to ask yourself is:
1) How do I re-energize myself – by being alone or by being with other people?
2) When you are working out an issue for yourself, are you more likely to talk out your ideas to others to get clarity (an extrovert), or are you more likely to think things through on your own (an introvert)?

There are a lot of other variable, but for me these two help clarify where an individual may place themselves on the spectrum of introverts to extroverts.

The dilemma facing introverts on the path to becoming a small business guru is that they may resist attending networking or social events where there is a good possibility they will meet people who are potential clients and customers. Melissa and I concurred that when in a room full of strangers, we have a strong desire to withdraw from the awkwardness we experience when approaching new people. It may be too uncomfortable, so we turn away from a potential client, looking for a comfortable wall to hang on. As comfortable as this may be, it doesn’t allow us to share our gifts with the world.

Melissa shared that it’s important for introverts to create for themselves some specific tools when in an uncomfortable social gathering; such as, when approaching someone you don’t know, introduce yourself and ask “what brings you to this event?” Because introverts are generally much better listeners, this gives both parties some comfort.

Another tip Melissa shared is to explore what it is you believe about yourself that has you withdraw to the wall. For me, I think of myself as insignificant, and the thought ‘Who would want to talk to me?’ keeps me from even approaching people I don’t know.

One other important dilemma of being an introvert in business is that our energy gets depleted quickly when we engage with clients and customers. It’s important to balance the time you spend doing quiet work with the time you spend in conversations – professional and personal. Working at home allows me to walk in the wood, or take a nap if I need to replenish my energies. Everyone has to find those particular ways that support us in fulfilling our desire to be successful and happy in our work-life.

Melissa added: “It’s important for all small business owners to know their limits and not push themselves into overwhelm and burnout. That doesn’t serve anyone. And, most importantly you can’t bring your best self, your best service, or your best product to the world if you are exhausted and depleted. Find the best practices for you to stay in balance for optimum fun, creativity and productivity.”

A huge dilemma that most of us face as small business owners is how to choose between what we are told we need to start a business and successfully run a business, and what we know in our hearts we need. Quite often people get stuck because their hearts are telling them to do things one way while the “business experts” have another way.

It’s easy to just bypass all the dilemmas of life by just not questioning reality. However sometimes life throws you curve balls and you can’t help but question why?
